Technical translation is used for exchanging special scientific and technical information between people who communicate in different languages. According to a simplified approach, technical translation means translation of technical texts. The technical translation is based on a formal and logical (collective) style, which is characterized by accuracy, lack of emotion, and impersonality.

Scientific and technical terms as language signs that represent the concepts of a special, professional field of science or technology, constitute an essential component of scientific and technical texts and are one of the main reasons for difficulties in translation, given their ambiguity, lack of translated equivalents (in the case of neologisms) and national variability.

The main peculiarity of technical translation is the need to combine knowledge of a foreign language with knowledge of technology.
