  • More than 30 years of experience teaching English and working with specialised texts.
  • PhD in Pedagogical Sciences and associate professor at a department of foreign language practice.
  • Founder and CEO of Admiral Translation Bureau.
  • Hands-on expertise in legal, technical and official translation.

Education and Academic Career

Iryna’s journey in linguistics began at the Kamianets-Podilskyi State Pedagogical Institute, where in 1987–1992 she obtained a degree with honours as a lecturer of Russian and English language and literature. Already during her studies she was deeply interested in the methodology of teaching foreign languages, the precision of wording and working with texts of different genres.

In 1998 Iryna defended her PhD thesis in “Military Pedagogy and Psychology”, obtaining the degree of Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences (PhD). In 2004 she was awarded the academic title of associate professor at the Department of Foreign Language Practice. This combination of solid pedagogical education, psychology of learning and practical experience teaching English became a strong foundation for her further work with complex, high-stakes translations.

An important milestone in her professional development was a teacher training programme in English at St. Cloud State University (Minnesota, USA), which Iryna completed in 2005. This experience allowed her to gain a deeper understanding of modern English-language communication, academic standards and intercultural interaction.

Teaching English and Working with Specialised Texts

From 1992 to 2000, Iryna Suslina worked at the National Academy of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, lecturing in English. Working with cadets, military terminology and regulatory documentation shaped her meticulous attitude to the precision of every sentence and every term – both in the classroom and in translation.

From 2000 to 2014 she headed the Department of Foreign Languages at the Khmelnytskyi Humanitarian-Pedagogical Academy, and in 2014–2015 she worked there as an associate professor. During this period Iryna combined management, teaching and methodological work: training future lecturers and translators, and developing curricula and teaching materials in English. This experience enables her today to explain complex topics related to the translation of official documents, contracts and technical texts in a clear and structured way in her articles.

Path in Translation: From Freelance to Her Own Translation Bureau

In parallel with her academic career, Iryna worked for many years as a freelance translator and conference/consecutive interpreter. From 2000 to 2015 she provided translation services for official delegations, international and business meetings, cooperating with state institutions and private companies. During this period she developed a deep understanding of real client needs: which documents most often require translation, what requirements courts, notaries, migration authorities, universities and employers set for the form and content of documents.

In 2008 Iryna founded a family-run company – Admiral Translation Bureau, where she serves as CEO and manages all key processes. Today, ADMIRAL Translation Agency has 32 in-house employees and over 300 freelancers, operating in more than 120 cities across Ukraine with its head office in Khmelnytskyi. The bureau translates over 200 pages per day into more than 40 languages worldwide, specialising in written translation as well as legal and technical subject matter.

Admiral Translation Bureau: Scale, Specialisation and International Projects

Under the leadership of Iryna Suslina, Admiral Translation Bureau has grown into a network that serves clients in various cities across Ukraine – including Khmelnytskyi, Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa, Kharkiv, Dnipro and other regional centres. The agency provides services in written document translation, notarised translation, sworn/official translation, apostille, legalisation, recognition (nostrification) of documents and obtaining certificates of no criminal record. You can learn more about the services in the “Services of Admiral Translation Bureau” section.

ADMIRAL Translation Agency has extensive experience working with major corporate and international clients. Among its completed projects are contracts for the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), the Council of Europe and UN structures. Such projects require not only high-quality translation but also the ability to build complex teams of translators, editors and proofreaders, as well as strictly comply with deadlines and confidentiality requirements. In the articles published on the bureau’s website, Iryna draws on this experience to show what happens “behind the scenes” of large-scale translation projects and why they require clear processes, terminology glossaries and multi-level quality checks.

Confidentiality, Responsibility and Translation Quality

One of the topics Iryna pays special attention to in both her work and expert materials is the protection of clients’ personal data and commercial information. Admiral Translation Bureau has implemented a range of security measures: non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), the use of local servers, configured IT security and physical storage of original documents in safes. This allows the team to safely handle contracts, court documents, medical records, internal corporate files and other sensitive materials.

In her articles, Iryna explains in detail why a translator is responsible not only for grammar and style, but also for the legal consequences of inaccuracies. An incorrectly translated date, an error in a company name or incorrect transliteration of a surname can lead to delays in court proceedings, refusal to accept documents or additional costs for the client. That is why she consistently emphasises the importance of working with a professional translation bureau, rather than with random freelancers who lack clear procedures and quality control.

Research Interests and Publications

Iryna Suslina is not only a practitioner but also an academic. In various academic and professional publications her name appears among the authors of papers devoted to pedagogy, educational psychology and legal aspects of working with texts. In collections on higher education transformation and in specialised journals she is mentioned as a researcher analysing the challenges of professional education and the role of translation in the modern information society.

This academic background enables her to combine scholarly depth with practical value for readers: she explains complex legal formulations in plain language, demonstrates typical translation errors and analyses real examples of document preparation for different countries.

As the author of articles for Admiral Translation Bureau, Irina aims to make every piece genuinely useful and easy to understand for readers. Her expert biography, clearly defined professional path, academic degree and many years of experience with real client cases all help visitors to better understand who stands behind the recommendations on translation and document preparation.
